Philosophy Of Education
My position as an art teacher is not only to teach my students the technical skills needed to produce art, but also to be their mentor and a positive influence in their lives. I strive to encourage their creative thinking and help them view the world through an artist’s lens. The purpose of high school art is not to produce professional artists, but to create well-rounded citizens who are critical thinkers. As an art teacher, I encourage young minds to use their imagination and create opportunities for students to demonstrate their innovative skills. Critical thinking and creativity are skills that should be applied to all other subject matter and developed for future careers. Artists work through problems in unique ways compared to any other subject. As a progressive teacher, I guide my students in solving problems and encourage them to keep developing and improving their critical thinking skills.
My mother initiated my love for art from a very young age by taking me to museums and buying me art supplies. I started to think of a future in art during high school when I began learning fundamental skills. High school is a time when students are becoming young adults and are able to think analytically and hone their artistic abilities. I strive to foster the same passion for art in my students that my mentors inspired in me. My goal is that my students will learn to see themselves as creative people which will carry over into all other aspects of their lives. They will learn to recognize art in the everyday world around them and appreciate how artists have made the world a better place to live.
